County Clerk Idoni Issues Warning Regarding Recent Mailings
Westchester homeowners are receiving another round of misleading mailings offering a copy of their deed for $59.50 and promoting it as a bargain. “Don’t be fooled into paying more for a copy of your deed than you need to,” warns Westchester County Clerk Timothy C. Idoni. “If your deed has been recorded in the Westchester County Clerk’s Office, obtaining a copy is fast, easy and, most importantly, affordable.” Idoni also advised:
- You have the right to get a copy of your deed from the Land Records Division of the Office of the Westchester County Clerk and do not need to employ a service to do this for you.
- You can obtain a certified copy of your deed from the County Clerk’s Office for as little as $5.00 for up to five pages, plus $1.00 for each additional page. A photocopy is even less expensive.
- Don’t be persuaded by these official-looking mailers. If your deed has been recorded in the County Clerk’s Office, the recording is valid whether or not you have a certified copy in your possession.
