Westchester Foreclosure Judgments Reach Record Highs in 2015

1,178 judgments entered in 2015, highest in a decade

WHITE PLAINS, NY: “The alarming increase in judgments recorded in Westchester County in 2015 is indicative of a foreclosure crisis that continues to linger,” reported Westchester County Clerk Timothy C. Idoni who serves as Clerk of the Westchester County Supreme Court where foreclosure actions are heard. “However, as judgments increased sharply, fourth quarter filings continued to drop, which is on par with what we are seeing across the nation,” continued Idoni. The Office of the Westchester County Clerk reported two thousand one hundred twenty five (2,125) foreclosure actions filed between January 1st and December 31st. The filings fell below record highs in 2013 and 2014. The drop in filings in 2015 is in sharp contrast to the ballooning of judgments for the same period. The year ended with one thousand one hundred seventy eight (1,178) judgments, well ahead of the seven hundred and seventy two (772) foreclosure judgments recorded in 2014. In particular, the number of December 2015 judgments (167) is more than double the number recorded for December 2014 (70). A month-by-month breakdown of foreclosure filings follows:
